Excavator Operator - Greenstone Gold Mines - Rotational Basis Work

Greenstone Gold Mines LP, owned by Equinox Gold Corp, is hiring an Excavator Operator for the Greenstone Mine in Geraldton, Ontario. This open-pit gold mine, operational since May 2024, is projected to produce nearly 400,000 ounces of gold annually for an initial 14-year mine life. The Excavator Operator is responsible for safely operating tracked excavators to excavate materials and support mining operations. This position follows a rotational schedule, and company transportation is available from multiple pick-up locations.

Responsibilities

The Excavator Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating tracked excavators at the Greenstone Mine. Responsibilities include:

  • Operating the excavator in compliance with safety policies and regulations.
  • Performing Field Level Risk Assessments.
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and refilling all fluids as required.
  • Completing logbooks and daily reports on safety and production.
  • Using two-way radios and horn signals for communication and safety.
  • Excavating materials such as overburden, sand, gravel, blasted rock, and snow.
  • Scaling walls, benching, and loading mine haul trucks.
  • Breaking rock using the rock breaker attachment when required.
  • Monitoring gauges and indicators to ensure proper excavator function and reporting discrepancies.

Requirements

Candidates should meet the following qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating excavators in a mine setting.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Prior industrial or mining experience is an asset.
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Training or relevant experience is required.
  • Ontario Surface Common Core Training is an asset.
  • Safety-conscious and self-motivated.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to perform repetitive tasks.

Greenstone Gold Mines is a prominent gold mining operation located near Geraldton, Ontario. The project encompasses the development of the Greenstone Mine, which includes the Hardrock deposit, along with other properties in the region. In May 2024, Equinox Gold completed the acquisition of Orion's 40% interest, consolidating full ownership of the Greenstone Mine. The mine achieved its first gold pour on May 22, 2024, and reached commercial production in October 2024. With an initial mine life of nearly 15 years, Greenstone Mine is expected to produce over 400,000 ounces of gold annually during its first five years, contributing significantly to Canada's gold output.
