Worksite/Project
Detour Lake Gold Mine
Detour Lake Gold Mine, located in northeastern Ontario’s Abitibi greenstone belt, is Canada’s largest open-pit gold mining operation. Operated by Agnico Eagle Mines Limited, the site uses conventional truck-and-shovel methods to extract ore from a massive, multi-phase pit. The mine includes a fully integrated processing plant, tailings management system, and on-site power infrastructure. With significant reserves and a long production horizon, Detour Lake is a key asset in Agnico Eagle’s Canadian portfolio. Ongoing exploration aims to expand resources both laterally and at depth, including plans for underground development. Originally developed in the 1980s and reopened in 2013, the site now stands as a leader in Canadian gold production, combining scale, operational consistency, and strategic location within Ontario’s mining corridor.
