Newmont is hiring Equipment Operators for the Red Chris Mine near Iskut and Dease Lake in Northern British Columbia, a fly-in/fly-out copper and gold operation with plans to transition toward a high-value underground block cave project. Reporting to the Site Maintenance Supervisor within Site Services, this role works a two-weeks-in, two-weeks-out rotation and supports diverse maintenance projects across site by operating excavators, loaders, hydrovacs, gravel and water/sewer trucks, and a low-bed highway tractor trailer for equipment transport. The position is hands-on and field-focused, requiring regular ground support, safe operation around crews, and the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces. The Equipment Operator supports Red Chris Site Services by operating and transporting equipment safely while assisting maintenance crews across site infrastructure and facilities projects.
- Demonstrate strong commitment to and compliance with all safety policies and procedures in a safety-sensitive mine environment.
- Operate site equipment including (but not limited to) loaders, excavators, gravel trucks, hydro-vacs, and water/sewer trucks.
- Operate a low-bed tractor trailer to transport equipment to required locations on site.
- Complete general labour duties, including regularly getting in and out of equipment to assist ground crews.
- Work safely at heights when required and follow fall protection and site procedures.
- Work safely in confined spaces when required, following site access controls and safety protocols.
- Work closely with multiple departments to support equipment and facility needs as necessary.
- Use excavators or loaders for fueling loading and unloading operations (as listed in posting).
- Perform snow clearing duties as required to maintain access and site readiness.
- Assist Pipefitters as required to support site services and maintenance work.
- Use computer systems proficiently for documentation, communication, or operational requirements.
- Report equipment deficiencies, mechanical concerns, and safety issues promptly to support safe operations.
Requirements
Candidates must bring heavy equipment operating experience, safe operation around ground personnel, and the licensing required to support hauling and site services work in a remote FIFO mining environment.
- Valid Class 1 driver’s license (required).
- Minimum 5 years of experience operating loaders, low-bed tractor trailers, and excavators, including strong finishing skills.
- Ability to safely operate equipment around people working on the ground.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision once familiar with site requirements and expectations.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to work at heights.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate and mining operation experience considered an asset.
- Crane operations experience and/or ticket considered an asset.
- Previous hydrovac experience considered an asset.
- Prior experience working with HDPE piping considered an asset.
