Environmental Technician - Greenstone Gold Mines - Camp Based Role

Greenstone Gold Mines LP is hiring an Environmental Technician to join its environmental compliance team at the Greenstone Mine in Geraldton, Ontario. Now in production, the Greenstone Mine is one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines with a 14-year mine life and expected annual output of 400,000 ounces. The Environmental Technician will support the mine's regulatory and environmental assessment commitments by conducting air, water, and soil sampling, site inspections, and compliance reporting. This role is ideal for experienced environmental professionals with a strong safety focus, technical field skills, and the ability to manage environmental data in a mining or heavy industrial setting. Company transportation and camp accommodations are provided.

Responsibilities

The Environmental Technician will support regulatory monitoring and environmental compliance through field sampling, inspections, data analysis, and coordination with operational teams.

  • Conduct air, water, and soil sampling per Environmental Monitoring Plan
  • Ensure monitoring data is collected, analyzed, and reported promptly
  • Follow field procedures and environmental permit protocols
  • Assist in investigating environmental incidents and impacts
  • Provide guidance and training to contractors on environmental practices
  • Compile and interpret data to track trends and ensure compliance
  • Participate in and promote a strong safety culture through meetings and audits
  • Perform risk assessments and site inspections to identify hazards
  • Support the development and auditing of the Environmental Management System
  • Coordinate with construction teams to ensure work complies with regulations

Requirements

Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in environmental monitoring, strong data management skills, and a solid understanding of applicable regulations.

  • 5+ years of environmental work experience (mining/heavy industry preferred)
  • Experience with environmental software such as Monitor Pro or Stake Tracker
  • Strong knowledge of environmental and waste legislation
  • Diploma or Bachelor's in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related discipline
  • Valid driver's license
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ethics and environmental stewardship
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team

Greenstone Gold Mines is a prominent gold mining operation located near Geraldton, Ontario. The project encompasses the development of the Greenstone Mine, which includes the Hardrock deposit, along with other properties in the region. In May 2024, Equinox Gold completed the acquisition of Orion's 40% interest, consolidating full ownership of the Greenstone Mine. The mine achieved its first gold pour on May 22, 2024, and reached commercial production in October 2024. With an initial mine life of nearly 15 years, Greenstone Mine is expected to produce over 400,000 ounces of gold annually during its first five years, contributing significantly to Canada's gold output.
