Responsibilities

The Lead Commercial Truck Technician performs advanced mechanical diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on tractors, trailers, and mobile equipment ensuring fleet reliability and safety.

  • Conduct advanced diesel engine diagnostics to identify and resolve issues accurately.
  • Maintain truck fleet according to service schedules.
  • Collaborate with Reliability Manager to improve fleet uptime and safety.
  • Perform routine maintenance on tractors, trailers, forklifts, and loaders.
  • Inspect equipment for faults and malfunctions.
  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations and maintain safe working conditions.
  • Perform shop repairs and road calls as needed.
  • Use computerized testing equipment and perform incidental welding repairs.
  • Operate automotive servicing equipment (e.g., A/C recycler).
  • Communicate with vendors, repair shops, and warranty departments; order and manage parts and warranty returns.
  • Recommend system improvements to management based on diagnostics.
  • Train other mechanics on diagnostics and repair techniques.
  • Participate in ongoing training and maintain knowledge of repair technologies.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following qualifications to succeed in this leadership mechanic role:

  • Journeyman's certificate, Red Seal, or equivalent.
  • CVIP inspection ticket.
  • Clean driver's abstract with no suspensions.
  • Proven skills in hydraulics and electrical systems, including schematics and diagnostics.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  • Experience with Daimler DiagnosticLink software is an asset.
  • Positive attitude and strong safety mindset.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for diverse environments.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and maintain professionalism.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.

These worksites are located in interior and northern regions of British Columbia, supporting resource-based operations such as mining and forestry. Typical duties involve hauling bulk materials like copper ore, wood chips, sawdust, and hog fuel using B-train trailers and heavy equipment. Drivers and equipment operators often navigate highways like Hwy 1 (Trans-Canada), Coquihalla (Hwy 5), Hwy 97, and Hwy 16. Work environments can include fibre mills, open-pit mining areas, or mobile processing teams, often requiring familiarity with mountainous terrain, variable weather, and safety regulations for remote operations.
