The partnership supports commercial development of natural resources within Simpcw territory and features significant capital investments in advanced equipment including electric conveyor systems reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This full-time position offers competitive pay starting at $35.50/hr (increasing to $38.77/hr after 90 days), full extended benefits including dental, life insurance, pharmaceutical, vision care, chiropractor, massage, Employee Assistance Programs, pension, and safety gear allowance. Responsibilities

The Log Loader/Button Top Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery to load, sort, and stack logs efficiently while maintaining safety and production flow.

  • Operate button top log loader and Cat wheel loader with log grapple to unload trucks and feed mill.
  • Sort logs by size, species, and quality.
  • Stack logs in designated areas ensuring stability and safety.
  • Inspect product condition for cleanliness and compliance with loading procedures.
  • Maintain equipment and perform routine inspections and minor troubleshooting.
  • Communicate with team members, truck drivers, and supervisors to coordinate workflow and direct load locations.
  • Comply with all workplace safety policies, regulations, and protocols.
  • Adhere to production schedules and report issues promptly.
  • Support inventory control and accurate documentation of load slips.
  • Assist with mill repairs and maintenance as needed.
  • Participate in cross training on all facility functions.

Requirements

Applicants should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum 5 years experience operating log loaders or similar heavy equipment in fast-paced forestry or logging environments.
  • Knowledge of log species identification.
  • Proficiency in operating log and wheel loaders, including maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and compliance.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments and various weather conditions.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective team communication skills.
  • Certification or training in log loader or heavy equipment operation preferred.
  • Flexibility to work other shifts including weekends.
