Dexterra Group is hiring a Breakfast Cook for its Horizon North remote camp in Nunavut, operating on a 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off fly-in/fly-out rotation from Edmonton, Alberta. The Breakfast Cook ensures the timely preparation of high-quality breakfast meals for camp residents, maintaining freshness, consistency, and presentation standards under Horizon North's food safety guidelines. Working 12-hour shifts in a northern camp environment, the role includes scratch cooking, buffet service, and ensuring safe food handling in accordance with company standards. The Breakfast Cook prepares and serves high-quality breakfast meals while maintaining cleanliness, food safety, and customer satisfaction in a camp kitchen setting.
- Prepare and cook breakfast menu items as directed by the Chef, ensuring freshness and variety.
- Set up and manage a breakfast line including egg station, omelet bar, and hot buffet.
- Prepare breakfast meats, vegetables, and specialty items such as pancakes, waffles, and eggs Benedict.
- Ensure accurate portioning and food presentation for all breakfast items.
- Prepare fruit bars, breakfast sandwiches, and ready-to-eat (RTE) containers for lunch service.
- Check and document cooler and freezer temperatures daily.
- Clean and sanitize all kitchen surfaces, tools, and equipment after use.
- Assist with grocery receiving, storage, and inventory organization.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation and stock area.
- Follow all food safety, HACCP, and health standards including proper labelling and dating of food.
- Provide professional, courteous service to guests and assist with other kitchen tasks as assigned.
Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate strong cooking skills, food safety awareness, and the ability to thrive in a remote northern work environment.
- Previous experience providing hot breakfast service in high-volume environments required.
- Valid Food Safe certification required.
- Large-scale cooking experience in camps, hotels, or banquet operations is an asset.
- Red Seal certification is an asset.
- Experience with scratch baking or pre-fabricated baked goods preferred.
- Proficiency in conducting weekly inventories and managing supplies.
- Strong teamwork, time management, and client service focus.
- Must have valid government-issued photo ID for air travel to site.
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs, and work long shifts on feet.
