Dexterra Group is hiring a Baker/Breakfast Cook for a Horizon North Fire Base camp facility with a 20/10 rotational schedule and 11-hour days. Transportation is provided from a designated Edmonton dispatch point. This dual-role position includes preparing breakfast and baking goods from scratch while maintaining food safety and hygiene standards. Responsibilities
This role involves baking goods and preparing breakfast meals for large groups in a camp kitchen while maintaining safety and food quality standards.
- Bake pastries, breads, and sweets from scratch
- Prepare breakfast items (eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc.)
- Restock pastry shelves and wrap/date items
- Follow menus and dietary requirements
- Supervise night shift staff and train team members
- Ensure hygiene and equipment safety
Requirements
Applicants must be experienced in both baking and cooking, with food safety certifications and the ability to supervise others in a remote environment.
- Red Seal certification or culinary training toward Red Seal
- FoodSafe Level I required; HACCP/SafeCheck preferred
- 3+ years' cooking and baking experience
- Supervisory experience required
- WHMIS score of 80%+ required

Because fire camps stand up on short notice and run for as long as the situation requires, the work is deployment-based, with room and board provided throughout. It's demanding, fast-paced work in a remote setting, supporting the front-line effort to protect communities, forests, and infrastructure across the western provinces during the wildfire season.
