Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic - Resolute Bay - Flights - 2/1 Month Rotations

ATCO Frontec is hiring a Heavy Duty Mechanic (4th Year Apprentice) to join its Site Services department in Resolute Bay, NU. This role involves repairing, maintaining, and servicing heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including diesel-powered trucks, construction machinery, graders, and excavators. The position follows an 8 weeks on, 4 weeks off rotation, with all travel expenses covered. The successful candidate will have strong mechanical expertise, the ability to work in remote and extreme weather conditions, and a commitment to workplace safety.

Responsibilities

The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy-duty equipment in a remote environment.

  • Repair, overhaul, maintain, and service diesel-powered vehicles, heavy trucks, graders, dump trucks, and excavators.
  • Fabricate, construct, install, and repair equipment and machinery.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and determine necessary repairs.
  • Continuously improve operations to decrease turnaround times and streamline workflows.
  • Operate additional equipment as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have mechanical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in remote conditions.

  • Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic certification preferred.
  • 4th Year Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprentice eligible to apply.
  • Valid Class 3 driver's license required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Welding experience (gas and AC/DC) is an asset.
  • Experience working in a remote environment is an asset.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Physically capable of lifting, pulling, and performing strenuous tasks.
  • Prepared to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Final candidates must pass a pre-employment alcohol & drug test, fit-to-work medical test, criminal record check, and Security Clearance Check.
