This full-time position operates on a 20 days on / 10 days off rotation in a world-class camp facility, with flights provided from a designated pickup point. The Second Cook supports daily kitchen operations by preparing meals, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring food safety compliance under Horizon North's high culinary standards. Responsibilities

The Second Cook plays a key role in kitchen operations, supporting food preparation and ensuring sanitation standards. Primary duties include:

  • Assist in food preparation and maintain consistent quality standards as per client requirements.
  • Set up and maintain a full salad bar for lunch and supper services.
  • Prepare various salads, pastas, and dressings from scratch, including oil- and cream-based sauces.
  • Inspect presentation and color of cold foods for appealing appearance and freshness.
  • Monitor and manage storage of food items in refrigerators and freezers to maintain quality.
  • Follow all FoodSafe and sanitation protocols for food safety and hygiene.
  • Assist with dishwashing, prep cooking, and meal execution to ensure on-time service.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by kitchen supervisors or management.

Requirements

Ideal candidates will have a passion for food preparation and strong awareness of safety and cleanliness standards. Requirements include:

  • Minimum 3 years' cooking experience in hotel, camp, or institutional environments preferred.
  • FoodSafe Level I required; SafeCheck or HACCP certification considered an asset.
  • Ability to achieve 100% on the mandatory WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) test.
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, sanitation, and food storage practices.
  • Team-oriented attitude and ability to work effectively in a remote camp setting.
