Dexterra Group is hiring an OFA Level 3 Advanced First Aid - First Cook for its Kitikmeot Camp Solutions site at Goose Lake, Nunavut. Working a 28-day on / 14-day off fly-in/fly-out rotation from Edmonton, Alberta, this role combines culinary excellence with emergency response capability in a remote camp environment. The First Cook ensures top-quality food service, kitchen safety, and compliance with FoodSafe standards while supporting the onsite medic with first aid duties. Responsibilities

The First Cook ensures high-quality meal preparation, food safety, and first aid readiness in a remote camp kitchen environment.

  • Prepare and cook a wide range of menu items including meats, seafood, soups, vegetables, and baked goods.
  • Use diverse cooking techniques such as frying, grilling, boiling, roasting, and baking to maintain meal quality and variety.
  • Ensure meals are prepared within allocated budgets and in compliance with FoodSafe standards.
  • Oversee plating, garnishing, and final food presentation for guest satisfaction.
  • Assist in menu planning, inventory management, and grocery ordering.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining facilities.
  • Support all kitchen roles including dishwashing, prep cooking, and meal execution to meet service timelines.
  • Provide first aid assistance on-site and support the medic when needed, ensuring readiness for medical emergencies.
  • Follow all safety and company food-handling procedures.

Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate both culinary skill and advanced first aid certification, suited for a demanding northern camp environment.

  • Valid BC Occupational First Aid Level 3 or Advanced First Aid certification (must include copy with resume).
  • Ability to assist medic and provide first aid support when required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the hospitality or food service industry.
  • Completion of a 2-year culinary arts program (Red Seal or equivalent preferred).
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Sous Chef in camps, resorts, hotels, or restaurants.
  • Comprehensive kitchen knowledge across hot, cold, pastry, bakery, butchery, and banquet operations.
  • FoodSafe Level I required; SafeCheck Advanced or HACCP certification an asset.
  • Strong computer literacy (Excel, Word, Outlook, Sysco ordering systems).
  • Successful completion of WHMIS test (100% pass mark required).
