The Lodge supports workers at the BHP Jansen Potash Mine construction site by providing high-quality meals and lodging. Camp Attendants

Camp Attendants are responsible for maintaining clean and hygienic conditions in the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen units. Their duties include making beds, changing sheets, distributing clean towels and toiletries, as well as washing, drying, and folding linens and towels. Additionally, they dust and vacuum furniture and draperies, sweep, mop, wax, and polish floors, empty trash containers, and wash windows, walls, and ceilings to ensure a pristine environment.

Janitors and Laundry Attendants - $16/hr

Janitors and Laundry Attendants are tasked with ensuring the highest sanitation standards across all areas. They maintain the good order and cleanliness of all equipment and facilities, clean lobbies, restrooms, offices, walkways, ramps, and stairways, and clear walkways of snow and mud both indoors and outside the buildings. Their responsibilities also include washing, drying, and folding linens and towels, as well as assisting in the laundry as needed.

Salad and Sandwich Makers - $17/hr

Salad and Sandwich Makers prepare salad bar items and create specialty sandwiches while ensuring that all flatware, pots, pans, and plate-ware are cleaned and sanitized to meet the Lodge's standards. They efficiently produce high-volume salad and sandwich items, oversee the stocking of food serving areas with a focus on quality and minimizing waste, and maintain proper food handling, storage, and serving standards.

3rd Cooks - $20/hr

3rd Cooks assist with meal preparation, ensuring that dishes are prepared and served to the highest standards. They are responsible for stocking food serving areas while minimizing waste and maintaining quality. Additionally, they prepare and cook food according to standardized recipes, follow food safety principles, maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, and accurately record all prepared products on daily logs for hot and cold holding, temperature, and cleaning schedules.

General Kitchen Helpers

General Kitchen Helpers assist with the basic preparation of food, including vegetables and snacks, and are responsible for cleaning the kitchen, equipment, and facility to ensure all areas are safe and hygienic. They inspect equipment and food regularly to ensure that stations are manned and supplies are fully stocked, contributing to the smooth operation of the kitchen.

The BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project, located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is poised to become one of the largest potash mines globally. Once operational, the mine is expected to produce around 8.5 million tonnes of potash annually by 2029. This milestone is crucial as potash is a key agricultural fertilizer, and the Jansen mine is set to play a significant role in global food production. The project has also created 5,500 jobs during construction and will maintain 900 permanent positions once fully operational.

The Discovery Lodge, built to accommodate the workforce for the Jansen project, is an integral part of BHP's strategy to support its workers. Designed and operated by ATCO Structures, the lodge provides housing for 2,586 workers and includes amenities such as fitness facilities, squash courts, steam rooms, and a 200-seat movie theatre.
