Snap Lake Diamond Mine Closure Project

The Snap Lake Diamond Mine was a diamond mining operation located 220 km northeast of Yellowknife, NT. It was owned by De Beers Canada, a major diamond producer. The mine operated from 2008 to 2015 and yielded high-quality diamonds, including valuable pink and yellow ones. Despite its challenging location and harsh climate, the mine upheld high environmental standards and adopted innovative sustainable mining practices.
Currently, the mine is being decommissioned and restored to its natural state. In 2021, the contract for the mine’s closure was awarded to the Nuna Group of Companies and Metacor Inc.
